Obituary for Ernst Post

Ernie Post was born on May 30, 1936 in Niederaula, Germany. He is predeceased by his parents Adam Post and Emma Bieber Post, sisters Margaret Hahn and Annelise Hohmann. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Toni Post, daughter Kerri Post and grandchildren Celeste and Jack. He is also survived by his sister Renate Lipphardt, brothers Werner Post and Harald Post, sister-in-law Bonnie Hoskins and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In 1961 Ernie emigrated from Germany to the U.S. by way of Manitoba, Canada.
His work career, as a factory-trained VW mechanic, included Bernhardt VW in Heidelberg, Germany, Vern Hagestad VW and Mountain States VW in Denver.
Ernie and Toni were married in 1963. In 1971 Ernie became a U.S. citizen.
In 1974 Ernie began self-employment in his own foreign car repair shop with his wife and their dog Duke, working alongside him in the office.
Ernie always had an interest in building, so, together he and Toni, over the course of their marriage, built their 3 homes and their shop in Evergreen.
His greatest joy was the adoption of their beloved baby daughter, Kerri in 1977, and the births of loving grandchildren, Celeste and Jack. He loved going to Celeste’s art shows and Jack’s soccer games.
Throughout his whole life he loved big band music, especially Glenn Miller. He often spent time listening to the games of his favorite sports teams, the Broncos, Rockies and Nuggets. Ernie and Toni would go dancing at the Tracadero ballroom in summer and skiing in the winter. They enjoyed experiencing all that life had to offer together, especially travelling to Germany and road trips to California to visit family and see as many sites along the way. Ernie even once lost his glasses on a tour, to which Kerri was able to point out that they were on top of his head.
Ernie was a kind and gentle man who lived his life with a deep sense of love and caring for others. It was never something that had to be said, people just knew through his actions. He spent many years delivering for Meals on Wheels. He also took on the role of a son to care for the needs of his decades long friend, Amand.
He never met a stranger and one of his often-used lines was, “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” He took great pleasure, one day, in walking over to quarterback John Elway, having breakfast in a restaurant, and said, “Great job John, keep up the good work!”
Even with his may physical challenges, there was always time for a kind word and a big smile. He touched many lives.
“To know even one life has breathed easier because you lived; this is to have succeeded.” R.W Emerson
Ernie will be deeply missed.
