Obituary for Arcie Ruth Romero

Ms. Arcie Ruth Romero (Martinez) passed away after complications from an illness on June 12, 2018, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, at the age of 82. In her final days, she was surrounded by family and close friends. She will be dearly missed by her children: Robin (David) Navarrette of Lakewood, Doug (Lisa) Romero of Centennial, and Kevin (Lisa) Romero, of Albuquerque, NM. She always enjoyed regular phone calls with Kevin and Doug, and cherished sharing a home with Robin for the last two years. Arcie was blessed to have eight grandchildren: Elyse Lopez, Mikaila Romero, Jenna Romero, Dominic Romero, Michael Lopez, Greg Romero, Connor Romero and Ryder Romero. She frequently addressed her grandchildren as “my friend”. The family recently made fun memories with her on a trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for her grandson Greg’s high school graduation. She always brought a spirit of fun and whit to family gatherings. She had a signature eye roll which became a common family joke. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Caroline (Martinez) Abeyta of Brighton, CO, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Margarito and Ruth Martinez, and siblings: Mary, Pete Ramirez, Victor, Joe, Max, Felix, Frank and Junior.
Arcie was born in Hudson, Colorado, and came from very humble beginnings. Most of her family worked as migrant farm workers. After graduating high school, she attended beauty school and soon afterwards, married Floyd Romero, a carpenter. When Floyd started the restaurant business, she worked right alongside him, doing payroll, taxes, washing dishes, waiting tables, and the like. She eventually went on to own Los Padres Restaurant, a known political gathering spot for the Denver up-and-coming Hispanics. It became known as a meeting place for those involved with getting Federico Pena elected as mayor. She also owned La Bodega Restaurant, and was a partner in La Mancha Restaurant of Larimer Square. She was a key administrative assistant for Johns Mansville, in its heyday. She spent many years working at Check Rite. She finished her working career as a part-time secretary at her son, Doug’s law office.
Arcie was devoted to God and was a regular attender at Holy Family Catholic Church, until illness made it difficult. She was a woman of prayer and loved her Saint Jude. She regularly prayed for those she loved, and those around her in need of prayer. She had a beautiful sensitivity to the Lord’s voice. Sometimes, she would call a family member to see how they were doing, just because the Lord had prompted her to pray for them, only to find out that they did indeed need prayer at that time.
As an avid Denver Broncos fan, Arcie hardly ever missed watching a game. She also enjoyed gardening, embroidering, playing bingo, doing puzzles, cooking, shopping for gifts for her grandchildren and having a glass of Beringer White Zinfandel. She made dynamite green chili and was known to cut a rug or two. She maintained close relationships with several friends, encouraged them through their life struggles and sometimes made trips to Blackhawk with them. Arcie was known for being a very generous person, helping out whomever needed it. Many regarded her as a classy lady, and she was also known for her remarkable green eyes. Her heart was for her three kids, Doug, Robin and Kevin, and she poured her life into them. She was well loved by many, and was a very popular individual.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 AM, Monday, June 18th, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church (4377 Utica St, Denver). A reception at the church will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Arcie’s life.
